What will MSYP Virtual look like?

MSYP Virtual is a one-of-a-kind, immersive summer education program delivered by a group of passionate and experienced volunteers from Mostar and around the world. As a participant at MSYP Virtual, you can expect:

  • Access to high-quality courses and workshops led by experienced academics and professionals from around the world
  • Daily emails containing video updates from our teachers and an overview of the day’s activities
  • A first week of taster seminars and skill-building activities
  • The chance to select from a wide range of courses to follow during weeks 2 and 3
  • An interactive website space for course resources
  • Fun, virtual social events

Who can participate in MSYP?

MSYP is free and open to young people aged 14-19. Places at MSYP are initially prioritised for applicants based in Mostar and the surrounding area. Whilst many staff members are fluent in both BCS and English, the program is taught in English, taking a language ‘immersion’ approach in order to help participants gain confidence in their use of English language.

Why is MSYP taking place virtually this summer?

Having carefully considered the potential implications of the ongoing COVID-19 global health crisis for staff and participants’ wellbeing and safety, we have made the decision to hold MSYP virtually once again this summer. We have therefore planned an exciting and innovative virtual version of MSYP, with lots of additional features made possible by holding the program online. As soon as it is safe to do so, we will resume in-person programming in Mostar.

The MSYP curriculum aims to leave participants more confident in each of the following areas: speaking English, critical thinking, creative thinking, leadership, teamwork, multicultural understanding, engagement in the community. Taught courses this year will cover the following subject areas:

  • Art history
  • Democracy
  • Human rights
  • Identity and culture
  • Literature
  • Media and journalism
  • Mental health
  • Philosophy
  • Politics
  • Psychology
  • Social activism

MSYP includes a diverse extra-curricular program designed with participant interests and learning needs in mind, which always includes a number of stimulating talks/workshops and other engaging activities led by organisations and professionals from a range of backgrounds.
